Barbara has loved storytelling since childhood when she would look forward to bedtime reading with her mom or dad. Her mom, an English teacher, always had a great book to read and her dad, the family optimist, loved to make up stories about underdogs who had zany adventures--adventures which always ended happily. Her parents also showed her the beauty of libraries, where books became windows into stories and history and endless ideas. Barbara began her career in the art department at The Muppets (Jim Henson Productions) in New York City where she learned all sorts of wonderful illustration lessons from some of the finest creative directors. She went on to work in educational publishing and communications, becoming a graphic designer, illustrator, and writer. She is currently Director of Library Communications at Princeton University.
